The 1963 Aston Martin DB5 is a grand tourer coupé designed by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera and manufactured by Aston Martin.
Regarded to be the most iconic Aston Martin ever created, it was fitted with an all aluminium 4.0L inline-6 engine, a 5-speed gearbox produced by Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen - a German car parts manufacturer - and was fitted with disc brakes.
A high-performance Vantage was introduced in 1964 that produces more horsepower with revised camshaft profiles and Weber carburettors.
Standard equipment included leather interior trim, woll pile carpets, electric windows, reclining seats, a magnesium-alloy body, and a fire extinguisher. A shooting-brake body concept was custom built for Sir David Brown, and an additional twelve coupés were modified to this design by Harold Radford & Co in 1965.
It is well known for being James Bond's car of choice, but this almost never happened during pre-production of Goldfinger. Sir William Lyons, co-founder of Jaguar, refused to lend three Jaguar E-Types for production of the film, and pushed producer Albert R. Broccoli to use the DB5 in its place.
