Checkpoint Races are time trial sprint races, which were only present in Need for Speed: Carbon and Need for Speed: Undercover. A similar version of checkpoint racing was featured in Need for Speed: Most Wanted, which is known as Tollbooth racing.

Overview[]

Like the name says, a player wins a checkpoint race by reaching every checkpoint in a race. After the player starts the race, their time will be reduced per second. Now his task is to get to the next checkpoint, so that more time will be added. The player can only win a checkpoint race if their time isn't expired. No opponents are in a checkpoint race besides the player.

Unlike tollbooth races, the player will never encounter police forces in a checkpoint race. Please note that the more progress the player makes in the game, the harder the checkpoint races will be. The same applies to gold challenges in Carbon, which are notably more challenging than bronze and silver races.
