The 2004 Chevrolet Cobalt SS (Super Sport) is a single generation sports coupe manufactured by Chevrolet.
It entered production in 2004 and went on sale in the North America market in mid-2004 as a 2005 model year.
As well as being sold as a 2-door coupe or a 4-door saloon, it was offering multiple trim lines: a base model, LS, or SS. The SS trim is fitted with a smaller displacement engine than the LT, a 2-litre inline-4 LSJ engine, except it is fitted with an Eaton M62 Roots-type supercharger and an air to liquid intercooler, giving an increase of 57 hp (42 kW) and 45 ft·lb (61 N·m) over the base trim level.
As well as being fitted with a supercharged inline-4, the front strut suspension and semi-independent torsion beam rear suspension featured tuned bushings, larger diameter stabilising bars, stiffened springs, and tuned shock strut valving resulting in a 10 mm lower ride height. Alongside the suspension, larger front brake pistons, larger calipers and brake pads, and larger rear shocks are also fitted.
It went on sale in Canada in 2005 as the Pontiac G5, and in Mexico as the G4, before being sold in parallel to the Cobalt in the United States of America in 2006 as a rebadged model replacing the Pontiac Sunfire sold.
In 2005, the LT trim was introduced a mid-range option and the LS became the base trim option. For the 2006 model year, the SS was sold with 3 stage kit options offering increased performance.
Production ended in 2010 with the Cobalt being replaced by the Cruze.
