Games[]

Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit[]

The Corvette appears in Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit as a Class B vehicle that is available from the beginning of the game.

The Corvette is the best class B car in terms of braking and handling, but fails to hit a top speed comparable to other vehicles in the same class. It can be selected with a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, although the manual offers better overall performance.

Description

When Chevrolet developed its fifth generation Corvette, they looked back to past versions of the car but drew on the latest technology to make it the best ever. The 1998 Corvette again uses fiberglass reinforced plastic bodywork, but the new car is four times as stiff as the previous generation, which dates back to 1984.

The new Corvette has sinuous lines that threaten rivals even when part, while retaining a family resemblance to earlier versions. Fans of America's sports car legend wouldn't have it any other way.

Helping the Corvette rocket to 60 miles an hour in less than five seconds is a new aluminum V8 of just under 5.7 liters with an impressive 345 horsepower. Top speed is estimated at 175 miles per hour, and the transmission is a six-speed manual.

Nimble handling is aided by adjustable fully independent suspension, and ventilated anti-lock disc brakes help keep all this performance in check.

The car is also equipped with a long list of high-tech features including run flat tires, the pressure of which can be checked on the instrument panel. The Corvette has always offered exotic car performance for a fair price, and the new car continues this tradition, costing little more than its predecessor.

In the PC release it is also a playable Class B pursuit vehicle, and is available from the beginning.

Need for Speed: High Stakes[]

The Corvette Coupe appears in the PlayStation release of Need for Speed: High Stakes, as opposed to the Convertible featured in the PC release.

It is featured as a class 3 vehicle that can be purchased for $60,000.

The Corvette offers competitive racing performance due to strong handling capabilities, coupled with improved top speed and acceleration statistics. It can be selected with a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, with the manual offering better overall performance.

Description

Although General Motors was founded in 1908, it wasn't until 1953 that Chevrolet division launched America's sports car, the legendary Corvette. The car was an instant hit, and every Vette since has achieved classic status among enthusiasts the world over.

he latest Corvette is the C5, the first all-new model since 1984. Although very much state of the art, it remains close to the tried-and-true original concept, with its glass fiber bodywork and potent power plant.

As with most previous models, buyers can choose either a coupe, hardtop, or a convertible. The C5 has been judged the best Vette yet by auto critics and fans, and boasts sleek sinuous lines and much improved interior design.

Though it has a family resemblance to earlier models, it draws on highly advanced technology to make it right at home among the world's supercars.

Great engines have always been at the heart of this car’s popularity, and the new model doesn't disappoint. Under its low, aerodynamic hood sits a new aluminum V8 putting out a hefty 345 horsepower. Blinding acceleration is complemented by road-hugging handling, aided by fully independent suspension with race car design origins.

Like its predecessors, the C5 is more affordable than most of the supercar rivals with comparable performance, and boasts such high-tech features as run flat tires, a heads-up display, and a pressure check system in the cockpit.

Corvette fans agree that the C5 is another legend in the making.
