Fortune Awaits is the first mission of the prologue to the career in Need for Speed: Payback.

The mission introduces the three main characters of the crew; Tyler "Ty" Morgan, Sean "Mac" McAlister, and Jessica "Jess" Miller, as they race each other to meet up with Ravindra "Rav" Chaudhry at his airfield in the desert.

Along the way, the player will switch between Tyler, Mac, and Jess to experience the types of vehicles each character is associated with.

Drive to the Airfield[]

All three members of the crew are driving through the desert towards Rav's airfield, which is 2.86 miles (4.6 km) away.

Tyler[]

Tyler drives his Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec (1999) along the winding roads of the desert as he tries to keep up with Jess. He eventually resorts to using nitrous as a means of gaining enough speed to overtake her, but just as he does, Mac takes a detour off-road.

Sean[]

Mac drives his Chevrolet Bel Air off of the road from Tyler and Jess towards the huge jumps along the nearby off-road trails. He continues along the dirt trail route, landing jump after jump before returning to the asphalt road, and is quickly overtaken by Jess.

Jess[]

Jess drives her BMW M5 along the traffic filled streets, knowing that dodging them is her best chance of catching up to Tyler and keeping up with Mac's off-road shortcut. She continues along the straight and tight technical roads towards the airfield before they all meet up at Rav's airfield workshop.

Drive to the City[]

The crew arrives at Rav's workshop with Tyler showboating his victory over Jess and Mac. They congratulate Tyler shortly before Lina Navarro arrives in her Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport.

She gets out of her car and walks over to the crew, telling Tyler that the race is all set up and that their plan had best work. Suddenly, Rav revs up the engine of his latest creation, a rebuilt Ford Mustang, and the crew promptly uses it for practice towards their up coming job.

Tyler[]

Tyler has to drive Rav's Ford Mustang to the city, 6.04 miles (9.72 km) away, to get enough practice to handle their target car; Marcus "The Gambler" Weir's own Koenigsegg Regera.

The route has plenty of variety between Rav's airfield and the city with tight corners, long straights, off-road shortcuts, and a traffic filled highway.

The crew arrives alongside the setting sun, in time for the big race and their big job.
