Lakeshore City is a fictional location based on Chicago, Illinois and is the open world setting of Need for Speed: Unbound.
It has various districts across the area varying from the urban jungle of Lakeshore City to the mud kicking routes through the Lakeshore Quarry, and the technical Kennedy Test Track to weaving mountain roads nearby.
The name of the city, and surrounding location, was revealed as the setting for Need for Speed: Unbound on October 6, 2022 as part of the game's reveal with an in-depth article being published to the official Need for Speed website.[1]

The Lakeshore Police Department will engage in pursuit of illegal street racers through the use of various police units.

Rydell's Rydes[]
Rydell's Rydes, located southeast of Lakeshore City, is the player's first safehouse and allows them to customise their vehicles, bank their cash, and duck out of pursuits to cooldown their heat.
Players can upgrade the garage through tiered upgrades requiring cash, and purchasing garage upgrades unlocks higher tier performance parts.
Safehouse[]
Safehouses in Lakeshore are the best way to slip away from a pursuit and lay low until the heat dies down. Additional safehouses are unlocked by completing Passenger Delivery jobs.
Meetups[]
Meetup locations found across Lakeshore are gathering spots for the area's underground racing scene and their locations are kept hush-hush to avoid the attention of the Lakeshore Police Department.
At Meetup locations, players can participate in events and make side bets to earn extra cash.
Gas Stations[]
Gas Stations can be driven through to fix any car damage, but their usage has an cooldown timer that must deplete before they can be used again.
Activities[]
Activities are a series of competitive targets located across Lakeshore with each activity having an asynchronous leaderboard tracking each player's best set record. Completing activities is shared across the campaign and Lakeshore Online, allowing players to progress through beating targets in both single-player or multiplayer.
Drift Zones[]
A Drift Zone activity has a set drift target score that the player must beat to earn a reward.
Speed Traps[]
A Speed Trap activity has a set speed target that the player can beat for a reward.
Speedruns[]
A Speedrun activity has a set average speed target between two checkpoints that the player can beat for a reward.
Jumps[]
A Jump activity has a set distance target that the player can beat for a reward.
Collectibles[]
Collectibles are various items found across Lakeshore players can collect and unlock rewards. Collecting items is shared across the campaign and Lakeshore Online, allowing players to progress through acquiring collectibles in both single-player or multiplayer.
Billboards[]
Billboards found across Lakeshore can be smashed through for a reward.
Bears[]
Bears hidden across Lakeshore can be collected for a reward.
Street Art[]
Street Art found across Lakeshore can be collected and unlocked as a decal that can applied to the player's car.
