The Lakeshore Police Department (LPD) is a law enforcement agency operating in Lakeshore and is featured in Need for Speed: Unbound.

The Lakeshore Police Department will do anything and everything it can to prevent illegal street racing in Lakeshore. They patrol the streets during both the day and at night with a fleet of pursuit units.

They appear in both the single-player Story mode and the multiplayer Lakeshore Online mode, although their engagement with players differs between each mode.

Engagement[]

Story[]

In Story mode, heat is tied to the player, with the amount of attention gained follows them as they go through day and night sessions each week, although some events have a specific Heat Level requirement and they can have big cash rewards tied to winning.

As heat is accumulating by completing events, the player will increase their base Heat Level in pursuits. Once in a pursuit, it will begin at a Heat Level aligned to the player's current amount of heat.

The player may have their heat increased during a pursuit and reach a higher Heat Level, but the amount of heat tied to them - should they successfully escape - returns to their accumulated amount of heat prior to entering a pursuit.

Pursuits can be initiated by colliding with a police unit, disabling a police unit in sight of another unit, or having at least 1.0 heat and being "spotted". LPD units can appear in events.

Spotting[]

NFSUB LPD Spotting

Units on patrol across Lakeshore will be on the lookout for street racers with heat tied to their vehicles.

A player with 1.0 heat or higher will garner the attention of any police units, resulting in any units within visual contact of a player with heat tied to them entering "spotting".

If a police unit is "spotting" a player, there is a small amount of time a unit has to maintain visual contact with a player to successfully "spot" them by filling a meter that will confirm a suspect. If a visual is confirmed, the player will be "spotted" by a police unit and a pursuit is triggered.

The amount of time needed for a player to be spotted by a police unit differs depending on the unit, as higher Heat Level units require less time to confirm a suspect.

A player can evade being spotted whilst a unit is spotting them as long as they don't allow the confirmation meter to completely fill, although multiple units can begin spotting a player at any one time, but a confirmation meter does not combine with multiple units.

Lakeshore Online[]

In Lakeshore Online mode, players can not gain heat outside of a pursuit and can only attain heat during pursuits.

Pursuits are only initiated by colliding with a police unit or disabling a police unit in sight of another unit. LPD units do not appear in playlists with the exception of Gauntlet playlists.

Assisting[]

Players can assist other players currently in a pursuit by ramming, taking down, or pulling units away from the player they're assisting.

Taking down units pursuing another player and helping them successfully evade a pursuit will reward the player with cash.

Pursuit[]

The Lakeshore Police Department will attempt to apprehend anyone tied to illicit street racing through pursuits.

Players earn Heat on their cars as they complete events and the amount of Heat tied to them reciprocates the attention given to them by the LPD.

To avoid getting into pursuits, players have a police scanner to monitor their communications and spotting mechanic.

Equipment[]

  • Radar - Locations of units, engagement circles, deployed equipment, and suspects.

Tactics[]

The Lakeshore Police Department has officers trained in advanced pursuit tactics, which can vary depending on the current Heat Level of a suspect and any authorisation of force.

  • Passive - Limiting damage and impact to public safety whilst pursuing a suspect.
  • Control - Alter, intervene, and manipulate a suspect's direction of travel.
  • Aggressive - Immobilise a suspect's vehicle through force.

Units[]

Various units with differing capabilities are employed by the LPD to make sure they always apprehend any suspect.

In pursuits, the fleet of units available to the LPD allows for an effective response to a varying requirement of force. As a player increases their Heat Level, either through completing events with an associated Heat increase during a pursuit, they will encounter more capable and ruthless units.

Trivia[]
