The 2005 Maybach Exelero is a one-off concept car built by Maybach.

Having been in development for only 25 months, it was first publicly shown at the Tempodrom in Berlin during the spring of 2005. It was showcased as a combination of a high-end limousine with the silky-smooth power of a sports coupé.

Built on top of the Maybach 57 platform - which in turn is based on the Mercedes-Benz W140 S-class - its development was commissioned by Fulda, a German tyre manufacturer owned by Goodyear, to promote their new range of Carat Exeleros tyres.

It is fitted with a Mercedes-Benz M275 AMG 5.9L twin-turbocharged V12 engine, also found in the Maybach 57, except it has 400 cc more displacement, larger turbochargers, a larger intercooler, and a larger radiator.

It produces 691 bhp (515 kW) and 752 ft·lb (1020 N·m) of torque, 148 bhp (110 kW) more than the Maybach 57, to a 5-speed Daimler-Benz 5G-Tronic automatic gearbox, all of which travels to the rear wheels of the over 19 ft (5.9 m) long and 7 ft (2.1 m) wide body.

The interior was crafted by Stola, a Turin-based specialist in developing interiors for concept cars and prototypes, featuring a greenhouse style roof held up by four pillars creating a pillar-less centre. Materials used for the interior include natural leather, neoprene, black and red carbon fibre, and coated perforated aluminium.

On May 1, 2005, it reached a top speed of 351.45 km/h (218 mph) at the Nardò Ring in Nardò, Italy with racing driver Klaus Ludwig behind the wheel. he successfully set a new world speed record for limousines using production tyres.
