The 2004 Mazda RX-8 (SE3P) was released in early 2003 as a successor to the Mazda RX-7. It was refreshed in 2006, and redesigned in 2009.

Unlike its predecessor, the Mazda RX-8 is a four-seater and comes with fixed headlights. The RX-8 was designed to be more practical for everyday use than the RX-7.

Need for Speed: Underground 2[]

The RX-8 appears in Need for Speed: Underground 2, and is unlocked upon the player completing URL event 9 within stage 4 of the career.

It is a well-rounded car with exceptional handling, good acceleration and modest top speed. When fully upgraded, it retains its driving traits albeit with improved top speed and goes head-to-head against its older brother; the RX-7.

The RX-8 appears in Need for Speed: Underground Rivals and can be purchased for $48,000.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted[]

The RX-8 appears in Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

It lacks in terms of acceleration, but also comes with overall good handling and a relatively high top speed.

Stock

The stock RX-8 is unlocked through the Career mode upon the player defeating Blacklist Rival #12: Isabel "Izzy" Diaz.

Upon being unlocked, it can be purchased in the Career mode from a Car Lot for 32,000 cash, and it can be selected for customisation in My Cars.

Isabel "Izzy" Diaz's

Isabel "Izzy" Diaz drives a customised RX-8, which is made available as a Bonus car for use in Quick Race or multiplayer after she is defeated in the Career mode. It can not be selected for customisation in My Cars.

It can be added to the player's garage in the Career mode as a possible pink slip reward from one of three mystery Bonus Markers offered after defeating Blacklist Rival #12: Isabel "Izzy" Diaz.

Mia Townsend's

Mia Townsend drives a customised RX-8 throughout the Career mode. It can not be selected for customisation in My Cars.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted (GBA)[]

The RX-8 appears in the Gameboy Advance release of Need for Speed: Most Wanted, and can be bought for 2,500 rep points.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted 5-1-0[]

The RX-8 appears in Need for Speed: Most Wanted 5-1-0 and can be purchased for $32,000 after the player defeats Izzy.

Need for Speed: Carbon[]

The RX-8 appears in Need for Speed: Carbon as a tier 1 tuner class car.

It has slow acceleration, meaning that it will struggle along straights, but compensates for it with superior handling performance that makes quick and consistent cornering possible.

Stock

The stock RX-8 is unlocked for purchase in the Career mode from the beginning and is offered as the start car for the tuner career path.

In any career path, it can be purchased from any Car Lot for 25,000 cash.

Bonus (Revved)

The bonus RX-8 "Revved" is available for use in Quick Race in the PC release. it is unlocked by typing the cheat code "speed3foryou" at the main menu, entering the Mazda Dealership Car Lot found in Billings District, Downtown Palmont, and purchasing it for 0 cash.

It is based on an RX-8 that appeared in Revved, a short-lived graphic novel by Top Cow, which included a reprint released in 2006 following a 2006 San Diego Comic Con exclusive cover release[1], and a cancelled television series that was in pre-production at Fox Television Studios[2].

The RX-8 appears in Need for Speed Carbon: Own the City, and is unlocked upon defeating Layla 3. It is also driven by Layla 1, Layla 6 and Turtle.

  • The RX-8 appears as a North American specification model in all games.
  • In Need for Speed: Most Wanted and Need for Speed: Carbon, bodykit 1 for the RX-8 has elements resembling the 2004 Mazdaspeed RX-8.
  • In Need for Speed: Carbon, if the player chooses the RX-8 as their starting vehicle in the career mode, then crew members Neville and Sal will drive a tuner class car.
