The 2011 Mazda RX-8 Spirit R (R3) is a 4-seater sports car developed and manufactured by Mazda.
In October 2011, as part of an announcement by Mazda ceasing production of the RX-8 in 2012, a limited run of 1,000 "Spirit R" special edition models were announced to commemorate the near ten-year production which had begun in February 2003 with the 2004 model year.
Taking cues from the RX-7 Spirit R, the final production run special editions were based on the Type RS with a manual transmission or the Type E with an automatic transmission, and were only sold in Japan from November 24, 2011 until production ended in June 2012.
Spirit R models are fitted with unique "Spirit R" badging, red brake calipers, and black bezel lights all-around, with either "Aluminium Black", "Sparkling Black Mica", or "Crystal White pearl Mica" body paint colours. The manual is fitted with 19" bronze alloy wheels whilst the automatic is fitted with 18" gunmetal alloys and sport suspension with larger brakes.
The interior offered differs between the fitted transmission; manual offers bespoke "Spirit R" Recaro bucket seats, where as the automatic has black and red leather seats, steering wheel, handbrake, and centre console.
