Template:InfoboxCar2The Mercedes-Benz SL 500 (R230) is a luxurious convertible that entered produced in 2001 from Mercedes-Benz. The SL 500 is often revered for its great driving comfort and power provided by its powerful V8 engine.

The R230 models of the SL line were relieved in 2011 with the unveiling of the R231 models set to enter production in 2012. The R231 SL line has seen two design alterations in 2006 and 2008.

The 2006 alterations included different engines for the SL 500 as well exterior changes such as new bumpers, larger cooling intakes, a new rear light, new fog lamps, new allow wheels and a more pronounced V-shape.

The 2008 changes included cues from Mercedes-Benz's new design philosophy including a more aggressive looking front and a single bar grille.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted

The 2004 SL 500 was featured in Need for Speed: Most Wanted. It had a price tag of $75,000 and was unlocked after the player defeated Blacklist driver #11 - "Big Lou."

The SL 500 seems to handle corners worse than other performing rivals although it compensates for this with better acceleration and a higher top speed than many similar ranged cars.

It can reach a top speed of 242mph once it is equipped with Ultimate performance parts.

The SL 500 is best suited to pursuits and race courses consisting of mostly straight lines. It also performs better than the Mercedes-Benz CLK 500 model (which has significantly worse performance traits than the SL 500) although both cars have the same engine, the Mercedes-Benz M113 (the one used in CLK has been revised to give more power)

A specially tuned variant of the SL 500 was included in the Black Edition release of Need for Speed: Most Wanted alongside the standard variant.

Trivia

  • The SL 500 and CLK 500 are the only vehicles in Need for Speed: Most Wanted to have a 7-speed gearbox.
