Courses in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 are located in differing environments based on North American, Polynesian, and Mediterranean themes. Each environment features one Sprint course and two Circuit courses.
All courses has parameters which can be altered, such as laps, with an additional weather option in the PlayStation 2 release and a mirrored option in the PC, GameCube, and Xbox release.

Alpine[]
A mountainous map based in North America and set during autumn. It features alpine roads, a lake, a dam, farmlands, and various mines. The course routes vastly differ between the PlayStation 2 and other releases.

Mediterranean[]
A Greek coastal map themed after the Mediterranean coast, including towns, marinas, vineyards, as well as ancient Greek ruins.

Parkland[]
A map themed after a park located along North America's Pacific coast with temperate forests, featuring dense vegetation stretches and open coastal areas, including a lighthouse area.

Tropics[]
A tropical island themed after Polynesia resembling the Hawaiian islands. It features forests, beach resorts, a volcano, villages, and a city named "Palm City".

Desert[]
Based on North American deserts with canyons, waterways, and an airfield. It is only included in the PlayStation 2 release.
