Career in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered revolves around the increasingly fought over Seacrest County between illegal street racers and the Seacrest County Police Department.

This gives players two separate progression paths; one as a racer and another as an cop, with each offering different event types, overall goals, and play styles.

Completing events will unlock additional events, cars, performance tiers, and Equipment within a career path. Bounty earned in events will add to the player's current level and progression through that given faction, with bounty earning in the career combined with any bounty earned in multiplayer.

Neither of the career progression paths feature any form of story beyond short career map briefings and occasional vignettes at the beginning of some events to create a tone.

Cop

The cop career has players taking on the role of an officer within the Seacrest County Police Department.

Events in the cop career are aimed towards police training in Rapid Response events and shutting down illegal street races in cops vs. racer game modes.

In Hot Pursuit and Interceptor events, the player will interact directly with racers and can fail these events should they wreck or allow too many suspects to evade.

Each stage of the cop career has a set performance tier, with performance level increasing as the player progresses through the career. Players are not blocked from entering multiplayer events of performance tiers they have yet to unlock in the career mode.
