Online Multiplayer, also presented as Hot Pursuit Online in-game, is the crossplay online multiplayer and matchmaking component of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered.

Players can access online multiplayer from the main menu of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered - to the left of the Career option - and is open from the beginning of the game.

Crossplay is offered as an option upon the player first starting Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered and can be toggled on or off through the 'Settings' menu under 'Privacy Settings'.

Upon accessing multiplayer, players can choose to join a quick match, find a multiplayer session, create a multiplayer session, or manage their social connections.

Joining a multiplayer lobby for an event will highlight the game mode, event route, car tier, weather conditions, time of day, route distance, current players, and the players participating for either faction. Once a session is locked, players will move to a car selection menu limited to a specific performance tier and faction specific cars.

Players can earn bounty as they continue along the event route of any multiplayer session, and additional bounty is awarded based on their performance at the end of the session. The amount rewarded is based on the player's performance, the total number of participating players in that session, and the winning faction of the event.

Quick Match[]

Quick Match allows players to join any current game session or lobby with an empty player slot without any search restrictions in place.

Find Session[]

Find Session is public matchmaking for finding an open slot in lobbies or game sessions aligning to the player's search criteria of game mode and performance tier.

Through Find Session, players are given the option to choose their preferred game mode and car tier. If a suitable match can not be found, matchmaking will prioritise the game mode ahead of the player's selected car tier, and join an open slot of any game mode if no match can be found.

Create Session[]

Create Session allows player to setup custom lobbies with their own selection of game mode, car tier, event, and players.

Within this section, players can also choose how other players can access their setup lobby:

  • Invite Only - Requires invites to be sent to players before they can join
  • Friends Only - Allows any players on the platform friends list or the EA Friends list of a player in the lobby to join
  • Public - Opens up the lobby to any and all players to find through Find Session

In a lobby, the host can change the game mode, car tier, event location, and teams.

Social[]

Social allows players to view their platform friends list, their crossplay EA Friends list, any pending crossplay friend invites, a list of recent players, and a list of blocked players.

Game Modes[]

In online multiplayer, there are five available game modes.
