Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered is a tenth anniversary re-release of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) with all of its previously released updates and downloadable content, as well as visual enhancements and cross-play support.
It was released worldwide for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 6, 2020, and for the Nintendo Switch on November 13, 2020.
It was remastered by Stellar Entertainment - a studio founded by multiple ex-Criterion developers - following on from their work on Burnout Paradise Remastered, Sea of Solitude, and Star Wars - Jedi: Fallen Order; with the involvement of Criterion Games.
The PC re-release includes three previously missing downloadable content packs; Armed and Dangerous, Lamborghini Untamed, and Porsche Unleashed.
The Switch release is derived from the Criterion Games developed game and the Wii release developed by Exient Entertainment.
Career[]
The career mode in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered revolves around the increasingly fought over Seacrest County between illegal street racers and the Seacrest County Police Department, with additional events from various downloadable content packs integrated to each career as part of remaster.
Players can choose to participate in two separate progression paths; one as a Cop for the SCPD, and the other as a Racer, with each offering different event types, overall goals, and play styles.
Completing events will unlock additional events, vehicles, performance tiers, and equipment within a career path. Neither of the career progression paths feature any form of story beyond short career map briefings and occasional vignettes at the beginning of some events to create a tone.
Players can choose which career they play through and can switch between each other at any time.
Bounty[]
Bounty can be earned towards a player's level as a cop or as a racer.
The amount earned depends on a player's driving ability and their finishing position for events, and a player's bounty for either faction can be increased across the single player career or online multiplayer.
Cop Rank[]
A player's cop bounty contributes towards their Cop Rank within the Seacrest County Police Department.
Racer Rank[]
A player's racer bounty contributes towards their Wanted Level for the Seacrest County Police Department.
Driver Details[]
Driver Details feature several stages of milestones for completion and offer additional bounty as a reward.
Freedrive[]
Freedrive can be accessed from any of the cop and racer map nodes in the career mode, but does not feature any required goals or targets towards progression. Accessing freedrive will allow the player to select from any unlocked vehicles, but the selection is limited to the faction node they have chosen.
Cars[]
Cars are split into five performance tiers for each faction across at least seventy cars. Racers can chose from a selection of unique body colours for their choice of car, and all SCPD units have a special police livery.
They are unlocked as the player progresses towards higher wanted levels as a racer or increase their SCPD rank as a cop.
Car Tiers[]
Each car featured is categorised by its performance capability into one of five ranked car tiers and is given a series or unit that represents its usage as either a racer vehicle or an SCPD interceptor.
Tier 1[]
Sports Series: Equally at home on the road or on the track, Sports Cars are fun to drive with enough power to make things interesting
Traffic Police: Bust Sports cars as they break speed limits and race through Seacrest County
Tier 2[]
Performance Series: Race tuning and increased horsepower make Performance cars difficult to catch
Highway Patrol: Faster suspects in performance cars fall under the jurisdiction of SCPD Highway Patrol
Tier 3[]
Super Series: Supercars are built for striking looks and speeds of over 200mph
Rapid Deployment: Members of the Rapid Deployment unit are issued with Supercars
Tier 4[]
Exotic Series: Exotic cars are extreme in every way: extreme performance, extreme cost and extreme desirability
Speed Enforcement: Only the best of the best are recruited by Speed Enforcement to take on the fastest racers
Tier 5[]
Hyper Series: The fastest, rarest and most exclusive cars in the world
Special Response: Seacrest County's most elite police unit with access to the fastest police cars in the world
Equipment[]
Equipment, or weapons, are offered to both cops and racers in Seacreast County. Each side has a differing selection of options available but all can be upgraded with successful usage.
Health[]
Health shows the amount of damage the player's vehicle can withstand and is shown as a red bar with a red wrench icon to the right of the tachometer in the bottom-right corner of the HUD. Players can not regain health during an event.
Anything that reduces the player's health and causes damage is shown in the bottom-right corner of the HUD with red text.
The health of a vehicle will diminish through collisions, being hit by equipment, and crashing. The player is notified when they are nearly out of health with a "Damage Critical" in the centre of the HUD and their view will be saturated alongside an emphasis on red tones.
If the player's health meter is depleted, they will be wrecked. A wrecked cop or racer will be eliminated from play during an online multiplayer session and can not respawn.
Nitrous[]
All cars are equipped with a nitrous system and can be used for a short boost of acceleration, but will recharge differently depending on if the car is a racer vehicle or an SCPD interceptor.
Anything the player does that refills their nitrous is shown in the bottom-right corner of the HUD with light blue text.
Cop[]
In an SCPD interceptor unit, nitrous will recharge over time when the car is driven at high-speed, when slipstreaming other vehicles, or by drifting. It will not recharge through dangerous driving maneuvers such as near misses and driving in oncoming.
Busting or wrecking a racer will instantly fill a nitrous bar.
Racer[]
In a racer car, nitrous will recharge through dangerous driving maneuvers such as near misses, driving in oncoming, drifting, or slipstreaming. It will not recharge by driving at high-speed.
Wrecking an SCPD interceptor unit will instantly fill a nitrous bar.
Busted[]
A racer can be busted in an event by an SCPD interceptor unit should both vehicles be stationary next to each other for a short period of time. This can occur if the player has crashed and an interceptor unit stops near their car or if the racer is brought to a halt by an interceptor unit.
A busted racer will be eliminated from play during an online multiplayer session and can not respawn.
Multiplayer[]
Multiplayer includes online player-versus-player multiplayer, asynchronous friend challenges, and crossplay with multiple platforms.
Online Multiplayer[]
Online Multiplayer can be accessed through the 'Online Multiplayer' section of the main menu. Between two to eight players can participate in player-vs.-player or team based online multiplayer sessions across five different game modes.
Autolog[]
Autolog is an asynchronous multiplayer suite used as a social-competitive network for players to connect, compare, and compete against each other.
A series of challenges and competitive suggestions is generated from the player's platform friends list and any EA Friends added through the social crossplay Social menu.
Social[]
Social allows players to manage their platform friends list and their crossplay EA Friends list.
Players can send friend requests to players on other platforms and are listed as 'EA Friends' in-game. Players receiving friend requests from players on other platforms can only accept or decline them from the 'Invites' section of the 'Social' menu.
Crossplay is offered as an option upon the player first starting Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered and can be toggled on or off through the 'Settings' menu under 'Privacy Settings'.
Seacrest County[]
Seacrest County is the fictional setting of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered, and is located along the west coast of the United States of America. There are a number of different districts in Seacrest County such as a beach coastline, dense forests, snowy mountain ranges, a barren desert, and majestic canyon highways.
Seacrest County Police Department[]
The Seacrest County Police Department is an agency that serves and protects Seacrest County from crime including illegal street racing. They own over 55 vehicles in their fleet to combat the fastest of all speeders.
