Need for Speed: ProStreet (PSP) is a handheld alternative release of Need for Speed: ProStreet developed by Team Fusion for the PlayStation Portable, and was made available in February, 2008.

Career[]

Main article: Need for Speed: ProStreet/Career (PSP)

In the Career mode, the player progresses through the Pro Series by completing events and leads to the Champion Series, which gives the player access to higher performance cars and events against the top performing opponents.

Events take place at any of thirteen locations, with each location offering a selection of different course layouts, event criteria, and car restrictions.

Driver Rating[]

The Driver Rating is the player's experience level, with points awarded as they complete events and greater amounts of points are rewarded for completing more challenging objectives.

Reaching higher Driver Rating levels increases the amount of Driver Intuition that can be used during an event and increases the performance benefits of staying along the racing line whilst it is in use.

Driver Intuition[]

Driver Intuition can be activated during an event to highlight the racing line and will give the player a minor acceleration boost if they drive along the shown racing line.

Driver Persona[]

A Driver Persona is the difficulty rating a player wishes to set for the Career and quick Play modes.

Full Assist[]

Weekend Warrior
Full Assist will help new users to prepare for corners by automatically applying the brakes and attempt to bring the car down to an ideal speed. Be careful that you don't keep applying the throttle during this time. Full Assist works best with automatic transmission. Less Driver Rating Points will be awarded, and cash rewards are reduced by 50%.

The player is given assistance with steering and braking, with additional help with traction should they leave the track and go off-road. Driver Intuition is automatically activated for corners. Rewards for events completed at this difficulty are shown in green.

Semi Assist[]

Adrenaline Junkie
Semi Assist is most suitable for users with some experience. Like Full Assist, Semi Assist will also automatically apply the brakes before a turn but less than Full Assist. Less Driver Rating Points will be awarded, and cash rewards are reduced by 25%.

No Assist[]

Speed King
Turning Driver Assist off is best suited for experienced users, but you will be rewarded for your efforts and receive full Driver Rating Points and cash rewards for events completed

Quick Play[]

Quick races which can have their parameters customised by players.

Grip[]

  • Circuit - Compete against other racers along a lapped course.
  • Lap Knockout - Compete against other racers along a lapped course, with each lap eliminating the racer in last place.

Speed[]

  • Time Attack - Compete against other racers to reach checkpoints along a course and add additional time. Racers are eliminated if they run out of time.
  • Speed Trap - Compete against other racers to set the highest total speed across a series of checkpoints along a course.
  • Gate Knockout - Compete against other racers along a gated course, with the last racer to reach certain gates being eliminated.
  • Sprint - Compete against other racers along a point-to-point course.

Multiplayer[]

Multiplayer events can be played with between two to four players over EA Nation. Each participating player is required to own a copy of the game, regardless if the multiplayer session is local (Ad Hoc) or over the internet (Infrastructure).

Entering an Ad Hoc or Infrastructure session allows players to either create or join multiplayer game sessions.

As a host of a created game session, the player has multiple options for their event:

  • Location: A location the session takes place at.
  • Layout: The layout the event session take place along.
  • Direction: Forward or reverse direction along the selected layout.
  • Laps: The number of laps for the session between one to nine.
  • Match Performance: On or off (players compete in similar performance rated cars)
  • CPU Racers: On or off (optional A.I. opponents to fill missing player slots)
  • Max Players: Two to Four

Ad Hoc[]

Ad Hoc mode allows players to connect their PSP systems to each other within a local area using wireless (WLAN).

Infrastructure[]

Infrastructure mode allows players to connect their PSP systems to each other over the internet using wireless (WLAN). Multiplayer servers were shutdown on March 16, 2010.[1]

Cars[]

Cars are rated based on their top speed, acceleration, braking, and handling. They are also each further categorised by their class, engine layout, and drivetrain.

Modify[]

Modify allows players to equip performance parts and change the visual look of their owned cars.

Visual[]

Visual options offer no performance improvements but allow players to create a unique look for each of their owned cars.

  • Number Plates - Circle, oval, square, rounded square, or shield base options, and any number between 00 to 99.
  • Window Banners - A selection of brand logos to apply across the windscreen and rear window.
  • Tint - A selection of window tint colours.
  • Rims - A selection of rims and different sizes.
  • Paint - Select a body paint colour from multiple standard, glossy, and metallic colour options.

Performance[]

Performance kits can improve the top speed, acceleration, braking, and handling ratings of cars, with each category offering up to four kits.

Damage[]

A player's car can incur damage during events, with excessive damage degrading performance and handling. Any damage to the player's car is repaired once an event has ended, but the repairs will taken from their event winnings.

Portland International Raceway[]

Portland speedway is renowned for being a very flat and very fast track. Watch that hard chicane at the end of the first straightaway.

Soundtrack[]

The PlayStation Portable rendition of Need for Speed: ProStreet shares its songs with the regular game's soundtrack.

EA Media Center[]

The EA Media Center allows players to customise the playlist of songs that can play during gameplay.

EA Trax[]

EA Trax allows players to play, remove, shuffle, or alter the order in which songs play during gameplay.

Any MP3 files stored in the MUSIC folder of an inserted Memory Stick will appear in the EA Trax list and can be added to the playlist, although they will only play in menus and not during gameplay.

Players can choose from one of three playlists:

  • All - Game soundtrack music and any MP3 files in the MUSIC folder will play.
  • Your Music - Only any MP3 files in the MUSIC folder will play.
  • Game Music - Only game soundtrack music will play.
