Playlists in Need for Speed: The Run are a selection of multiplayer matchmaking pools with differing restrictions of allowed cars.
Players can choose from a selection of Playlists to participate in or join a Quick Match:
- Playlists have a different selection of Sessions, Solo Objectives, and car restrictions.
- Quick Match will join any currently active Session of any unlocked Playlist.
Four Playlists are offered to players from the beginning, with an additional three unlocked by completing Multiplayer Objectives, and a Weekly Playlist was briefly available on a rotating basis.
Selecting a Playlist will show the player the list of Solo Objectives available in that Playlist, as well as those completed and those they player can currently contribute towards completing. Players can unlocked other Playlists by completing Multiplayer Objectives.
Each Playlist has a Session of between one to five tracks and a specific performance tier restriction on top of any derived from the Playlist.

From February 7, 2012 to April 7, 2012, players could vote for a Weekly Playlist through a poll on the official Need for Speed Facebook page every Tuesday. The winning Weekly Playlist would be activated the following Friday at 4pm (PST) and be open to all players for one week, which would then be swapped for the next Weekly Playlist players voted for.
Each vote included up to all six Weekly Playlists, with the each winning Playlist removed every week. Following all six Weekly Playlists being activate in a weekly succession, all six we made available for one week between March 30, 2012 to April 6, 2012, and a single vote for the second series of Weekly Playlist activations was held on April 7, 2012 with no following votes taking place.
