Drag Race is an event type in Need for Speed: Unbound introduced as part of Volume 7 and is available in the multiplayer Lakeshore Online mode.

It is a point-to-point event along a route with set lanes in which participants compete against each other to reach the finish line.

Up to four participants compete against each other across two rounds with manual transmission enabled. The winner is the racer with highest total score after the second round.

Race[]

Pre-race[]

NFSUB Drag WarmUp

Each event has two rounds with players earning points based on their finishing position for each round.

Players partake in a tyre warm-up prior to each round, allowing them a chance to achieve optimal grip and a significant Burst Nitrous charge within a ten-second window by performing a burnout.

  • Too Cold - Below optimal tyre temperature
  • Perfect Temperature - Optimal grip and a level 2 Nitrous Burst
  • Too Hot - Above optimal tyre temperature

Shifting[]

NFSUB Drag ManualGears

During the race, players are required to change gears using a manual transmission.

Shifting too early or late can drop the player's car out of their power band, but performing a "Perfect Shift" - within a green band shown in the rev range - will keep the player's car within the power band and add an additional half-level Burst Nitrous charge.

  • Shift - No additional Burst Nitrous charge
  • Perfect Shift - Half-level Burst Nitrous charge
  • Over Rev - No additional Burst Nitrous charge

Perfect Launch[]

At the start line, players can perform a "Perfect Launch" by being within the optimal rev range displayed on the tachometer, and not the "Perfect Shift" range displayed for their shift from 1st gear into 2nd gear on the drag rev-counter.

Burst Nitrous[]

NFSUB Drag PerfectShift

Nitrous tanks are disabled for all participants although Burst Nitrous charges can be earned and activate throughout.

Lanes[]

NFSUB Drag LaneSwitching

During the race, all players drive along a set lane and players can switch lanes by tapping their steering left or right to avoid traffic, slipstream opponents, or avoid obstacles.

The number of lanes varies between events and can change along a route depending on any placed obstacles.
