Lakeshore Online mode is the online multiplayer component of Need for Speed: Unbound for up to 16 players in a single free roam session or up to 8 players in a single PvP session.

Up to 16 total players can play together in a free roam session in Lakeshore with cross-play[1], and can form parties of up to 4 total players.[2]

A player's collection of cars and their earned bank is separate from their single-player Story mode, with their Lakeshore Online character's tied to their participation in multiplayer.

In free roam, players are free to explore Lakeshore in sessions containing up to 16 total players.

Players can take part in challenges, the league, Linkups, and playlists, as well as pursuits with the Lakeshore Police Department.

In PvP (Player vs. Player), players can enter matchmade sessions containing up to 8 total players.

Players compete against each in a selection of pools containing multiple playlists.

Rank is tied to a player's progression in both the single-player story mode and the multiplayer Lakeshore Online mode. Players earn experience points (XP) by completing playlists, daily or weekly challenges, and Linkups.

Cross-play[]

Cross-play allows Lakeshore Online players across PC (Origin, Steam, and Epic Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S to play multiplayer together.

With cross-play enabled, players can send invites to other players to join their friends list of "EA Friends" using their EA ID.

Cross-play can be enabled or disabled in the settings menu prior to joining a multiplayer session. Disabling cross-play will limit the player to the multiplayer network they are currently playing within; PC, PlayStation Network, or Xbox LIVE.

Party[]

A party is a group of up to 4 players and can be formed through either the garage prior to joining a Lakeshore Online session or whilst in a multiplayer session.

As a party, players within the group can choose to participate in Race Playlists without other players or play together alongside other players.

Chat Wheel[]

The Chat Wheel allows players to quickly communicate with each other in multiplayer using phrases and emotes.

Players can choose to set their own emotes and messages for their chat wheel from a selection of 50 phrases and 25 emotes.
