Nitrous is a performance part in Need for Speed: Unbound and is in the engine category for internal combustion engines.
“ | Nitrous when activated adds extra air and fuel into the engine giving a power boost that gets slower over time. | ” |
— In-game description
|
A nitrous injection system is used to increase the power output of an engine for a short period of time by adding nitrous oxide (N2O) into the fuel-air mixture within the combustion chamber.
The injection of N2O into the engine as a liquid is boiled to alter to a gas form, causing the bonds to breakdown and release oxygen into the cylinder. The additional oxygen molecules allow for more fuel to burn within the cylinder to create a greater deal of pressure and thus greater power output.
- Dry - N2O is shot into the air intake of an engine. The OEM system has to be altered to allow more fuel to be introduced into the cylinders.
- Wet Single-Port - N2O and fuel are mixed together before being shot into the air intake of an engine.
- Wet Direct Port - N2O and fuel are mixed together before being shot into each individual intake port of a cylinder.
Some Auxiliary items for internal combustion engine vehicles can enhance the regeneration rate for nitrous.
