Performance is a vehicle rating system inNeed for Speed: Unbound for measuring and categorising the capabilities of vehicles.
Rating[]
Equipping higher rated parts will increase a vehicle's performance rating from its stock value to its highest rating cap. The stock rating and the performance cap is different for each vehicle, and may require the player to swap the engine of a vehicle before it is capable of reaching a higher performance cap.
The performance rating for all vehicles is between 100 to 400, and any vehicles exceeding that are rated as 400+.
Nitrous is also rating but doesn't affect the vehicle's overall rating, as its rating only shows the potency of the fitted nitrous part.
Parts[]
The performance parts offered for each vehicle are divided into four sections: engine (ICE) or motor (EV), chassis, drivetrain, and auxiliary. Each category has a differing affect of the performance ratings of a vehicle.
Engine Swaps[]
Performing an engine swap will remove the currently installed engine and replace it with any other optional engines offered to the player for their current car. Swapping an engine can allow a car to reach a higher performance rating.
Handling[]
The handling profile represents a vehicle's suspension and handling traits, with the slider highlighting a vehicle's bias:
- Grip - The vehicle will better maintain traction and will show a bias towards to the left of the slider.
- Drift - The vehicle is more likely to break traction and will show a bias towards to the right of the slider.
- Neutral - The vehicle can maintain traction or break traction and will show a bias in the centre of the slider.
Equipping improved components increases the degree in which the handling setup of a car can be altered with suspension, tyres, and differential parts generating a range along the slider which can increase the adjustable range or shift the adjustable range along the slider.
Edit Handling[]
Players can edit the handling of their vehicle to adjust its performance. The amount of editing the player can perform on a vehicle depends on the quality and number of performance parts equipped, but is locked if drift pro tyres are equipped.
Traction[]
The traction profile represents a vehicle's traits on driving surfaces, with the five sections highlighting a vehicle's bias:
- Far Left - The vehicle is best suited to a road surface and least capable off-road.
- Left - The vehicle is suited to a road surface but can perform off-road.
- Centre - The vehicle is suitable to drive on mixed surfaces: on road or off-road.
- Right - The vehicle is suited to off-road but can perform on a road surface.
- Far Right - The vehicle is best suited to off-road and isn't intended for a road surface.
