Performance Parts in Need for Speed: Unbound are performance items used to improve the performance ratings and handling profile of vehicles.

The parts offered to each vehicle are divided into four sections; engine, chassis, drivetrain, and auxiliary. Each category has a differing affect of the performance ratings of a vehicle.

Parts are unlocked as the player purchases upgrades for the garage with bank.

Owned parts can be removed from vehicles and equipped to others owned by the player. Parts that are owned but haven't been equipped to a vehicle are stored under the inventory section of the parts selection menu.

Quality[]

The quality of a part refers to its likely performance increase to a vehicle:

Basic
(Standard)
Sport
(Improved)
Pro
(Refined)
Super
(Specialty)
Elite
(Bespoke)

Upgrade Garage[]

Greater quality parts are unlocked as the player purchases upgrades for Rydell's garage with bank.

Upgrades purchased do not carry over from either of the single-player Story mode to or from the Lakeshore Online multiplayer mode, and have to be purchased for the player's garage in each mode.

Categories[]

Engine (ICE)[]

NFSUB Performance Engine

The engine section includes parts used for improving the power, top speed, acceleration, and nitrous statistics of a vehicle fitted with an internal combustion engine (ICE).

Parts equipped under the engine section are attached to the currently fitted engine, and purchases are tied to that engine for that vehicle should the player perform an engine swap.

Engine Swap[]

Performing an engine swap will remove the currently installed engine and replace it with any other optional engines offered to the player for their current car. Swapping an engine can allow a car to reach a higher performance rating.

Engine Parts[]

Induction[]
NFSUB Performance AirIntake

The air system funnels air into the engine. An improved induction system improves air quality and flow into the engine.

ECU[]
NFSUB Performance ECU

The ECU controls all the electronics in the engine. A better ECU can work faster, resulting in higher power output from the engine.

Fuel System[]
NFSUB Performance FuelSystem

The fuel system creates an air/fuel mixture that combusts within the engine. An improving fuel system creates a better quality mixture to produce more power.

Exhaust[]
NFSUB Performance Exhaust

The exhaust system evacuates hot gases from the combustion chamber. The more efficiently these gases can be vented, the more fresh air can be taken in during the next combustion cycle.

Aspiration[]
NFSUB Performance Turbocharger

The aspiration of a vehicle is determined through any form of forced induction system. A turbocharger or supercharger can be used to increase power at certain points across the rev range.

Nitrous System[]
NFSUB Performance Nitrous

Nitrous, when activated, adds extra air and fuel into the engine, giving an instant power boost.

Motor (EV)[]

NFSUB Performance MotorComponents

The motor section includes parts used for improving the power, top speed, acceleration, and boost statistics of a vehicle fitted with electric motors (EV).

Parts equipped under the motor section are attached to the currently fitted electric motor, and purchases are tied to that motor for that vehicle should the player perform an engine swap.

Motor Parts[]

Battery Cooling[]
NFSUB Performance BatteryCooling

Keeping the battery cooled at its optimum working temperature ensures maximum efficiency, increasing power output.

ECU[]
NFSUB Performance ECU

The ECU controls all of the electronics in the EV's motor setup. A better ECU allows more power to be output from the motor.

Power System[]
NFSUB Performance PowerSystem

An improved power system with a higher voltage output. Higher voltage means the motor can spin faster and generate more power.

Motor Components[]
NFSUB Performance MotorComponents

Improved motor components are built to run smoother and more efficiently, resulting in the motor spinning with less drag.

Aspiration[]
NFSUB Performance Turbocharger

Naturally aspirated engines lack the extra grunt that can be gained from Forced Induction. The benefit of this is the lack of lag and smooth power delivery.

Overcharge[]
NFSUB Performance Overcharge

Overcharge releases a brief but powerful surge of electricity into the motor resulting in a power boost.

Chassis[]

The chassis section includes parts used for altering the Handling Profile of a vehicle and the acceleration statistic.

Suspension[]

NFSUB Performance Suspension

Suspension alters the handling through offering setups with advantages and disadvantages for certain situations. Certain kits allow the player a range to customise the handling characteristics of their vehicle and can change the traction category their vehicle resides in.

Brakes[]

NFSUB Performance Brakes

Brakes are used to slow down a vehicle and better brakes gives the ability to start braking later, giving better lap times.

Tyres[]

NFSUB Performance TyreRoad

Tyres alter the handling through offering setups with characteristics for certain situations.

Certain compounds shift the range for players to customise the handling characteristics of their vehicle and can change the traction category their vehicle resides in.

Drivetrain[]

The Drivetrain section includes parts used for altering the Handling Profile of a vehicle, as well as altering the high speed and acceleration statistics.

Clutch[]

NFSUB Performance Clutch

The clutch connects the engine and gearbox. Improving the clutch will reduce the shifting time resulting in better acceleration.

Gearbox[]

NFSUB Performance Transmission

The gearbox relates to the number of gears a vehicle has. The optimal amount of gears varies from engine to engine and vehicle to vehicle, but also on how the vehicle is being used.

Differential[]

NFSUB Performance Differential

Differential alters the handling through offering setups with advantages and disadvantages for certain situations. Certain kits allow the player a range to customise the handling characteristics of their vehicle.

Auxiliary[]

NFSUB Performance Empty

The auxiliary section includes parts that can assist the player as they're driving around Lakeshore, during either the day or night.

Equip up to two passive auxiliary items to set up a vehicle for high-speed racing or intense police pursuits.
