Ranks in Need for Speed: Unbound used to represent a player's total amount of experience points earned in the multiplayer Lakeshore Online mode during Volume 1 and Volume 2.
They were replaced by the Speed Pass released with Volume 3 on June 20, 2023 and reinvigorated with the release of Volume 6 on February 27, 2024.
Experience points towards rank in volumes 1 and 2 could be earned in Lakeshore Online by completing playlists, with completing playlists in a higher finishing position and more players would reward a greater amount of experience points.
Each rank had a number and icon to highlight the player's progression towards the top rank: 99. Upon reaching rank 99, experience points earned by the player counted towards repeating and looping rank 99, which occurred every 9,000 XP accumulated.
