Performance Customisation in Need for Speed: Underground are customisation components equipped to cars to improve their performance in events.
Each package is categorised as Stock, Street (Level 1), Pro (Level 2), Extreme (Level 3), or Unique, with higher levels offering the highest performance increase, and unique packages. Players may also select between various brands for performance packages. Although each brand package does not differ in performance between each other, selecting a brand package will unlock associated brand decals.
Performance part packages are unlocked for purchase as the player progresses through Underground Mode.
Packages[]
Engine Exhaust Package[]
An Engine Exhaust Package includes a selection of engine and exhaust components to improve the acceleration rating of a car.
Drivetrain Package[]
A Drivetrain Package includes a selection of transmission components to improve the top speed rating of a car.
Tyres[]
Sets of Tyres are equipped to improve the handling rating of a car.
E.C.U. & Fuel System[]
An E.C.U. & Fuel System includes a selection of ECU, fuel pump, and injection components to improve the acceleration and top speed ratings of a car.
Turbo Package[]
A Turbo Package includes a selection of forced induction components to improve the acceleration rating of a car.
Brake Kits[]
Brake Kits include a selection of suspension components to improve the handling rating of a car.
Weight Reduction Kits[]
Weight Reduction Kits include a selection of lightened components and part removal packages to improve the acceleration and handling ratings of a car.
Suspension Package[]
A Suspension Pakcage includes a selection of suspension components to improve the handling rating of a car.
Nitrous Oxide Package[]
A Nitrous Oxide Package includes a selection of nitrous injection components to improve the top speed and acceleration ratings of a car.
Unique Parts[]
Unique performance packages offer vast performance improvements over all levels of any performance part, and can only be won by beating TJ's time trial events in Underground Mode.
Upon beating a time trial event, TJ will give the player a selection of unique parts to choose from as a reward. Any unique part rewards offered by TJ at the end of an event that are not chosen by the player are made available as a reward option again for the following time trial event offered by TJ.
TJ invites the player to three time trial events in Underground Mode:
- Event #7: "TJ's Time Trial"
- Reward: Engine Exhaust Package, Drivetrain Package, or Tyres.
- Event #26: "Keep Them Coming"
- Reward: Engine Exhaust Package, Drivetrain Package, Tyres, E.C.U. & Fuel System, Turbo Package, or Brake Kits.
- Event #96: "Mods to the Max"
- Reward: Engine Exhaust Package, Drivetrain Package, Tyres, E.C.U. & Fuel System, Turbo Package, Brake Kits, Weight Reduction Package, Suspension Package, or Nitrous Oxide Package.
