Race Modes in Need for Speed: Underground take place throughout Olympic City, with new various routes unlocked as the player completes events in Underground mode.

There are six race modes available, and each offers a selection of routes including forward and reverse orientations.

Modes[]

Circuit[]

Circuit races are looping routes with a set number of laps and a finish line.

Participants have to complete all laps along the route, with the first racer to complete all laps being the winner.

Sprint[]

Sprint races are point-to-point routes with a set start and finish line.

The winner is the first racer to the reach the finish line.

Drag[]

Drag races are short point-to-point routes focusing on engine rpm management and changing gear at the optimal point.

The winner is the first racer to the reach the finish line without crashing or blowing up their engine.

Drift[]

Drift races are style competitions along looping closed tracks with a set number of laps. Each racer earns points based on their ability to break traction and maintain a long slide.

The winner is the racer with the most points once all laps are complete.

Lap Knockout[]

Lap Knockout is a circuit race along looping routes with a set number of laps and a finish line, although the racer in last place at the end of each lap is eliminated.

The winner is the remaining racing once all laps are completed.

Free Run[]

Free Run offers players to learn each route by themselves outside of a race and without any rival racers.

Tournament[]

Main article: Need for Speed: Underground/Tournament

Tournament is a series of multiple routes in succession across various race modes, and racers earn points based on their finishing position at the end of each individual race route.

The winner is the racer with the highest total amount of points once all routes have been completed.
