Updates for Need for Speed: World added content, fixed bugs, and improved the user experience of the game.

Regular updates were released from the game's launch in July 2010 through to mid-2013, with a few final updates being released in 2015 to maintain the game through the "End of the World" event, and concluded with the game's closure on July 14, 2015.

  • Two new open-class drag events have been added to the game and will be available for daily play ("Skirmish" and "Loop")
  • A new feature called "Race Again" has been added to the Post-race flow. Players can now repeatedly race against the same group of opponents without returning to Free Roam by going through the post-race flow within a specified amount of time.
  • Players can now earn Rep and reach Level 60! One free car slot will be unlocked at Level 60 and added to the player's garage
  • Extrapolation improvements have been made to give a more accurate representation of a player's position and driving behavior during a race or in Free Roam
  • New 4-Star Skill Mods have been released! These Skill Mods have the highest range of skill effects in the game, and can be either won from the Lucky Draw or from purchasing various Skill Packs, including the existing Race Skill Pack

  • New Car Classes system: Cars are no longer bracketed by Tiers, and are instead bracketed by Classes (E, D, C, B, A and S)
  • Players can upgrade any of their cars to reach a higher Car Class based on the car's Overall Rating
  • The Purchase Cars, Sell Cars and Change Cars screens have been updated to feature an improved user interface and functionality.
  • Cars are now sorted in a scrollable list with the option to filter by Class and Make. A new panel shows any Skill Mods, Performance Parts, and Aftermarket Parts that are installed on the car, even before purchase; Players can mouseover each icon to get more information (e.g. part values)
  • Events-of-the-Day: Events will dynamically change every day (about 12 to 15 events will be available per day.)
  • Parts no longer have Tiers, any part can now be installed on any car
  • All Street Performance Parts are now available for purchase with Cash in the Performance Shop
  • More Car Slots will be unlocked at different levels: level 12, level 20, level 30, level 40, and level 50 (Players will be awarded the car slots retroactively based on their current level)
  • A.I opponents now compete using a larger selection of cars

  • Please note that the Need for Speed World Leaderboards will be reset during the patch. This means that all leaderboard data will be removed. We're resetting the leaderboards due to the new Performance Customisation system and to remove invalid times.

  • Post-Pursuit screen displaying double reputation/cash issue has been addressed. Please note that players did receive the correct amount of cash & rep. The problem was the rewards were being shown as double the correct amount.

  • New Performance Customisation System: Players can now install individual performance parts on their vehicle. Customise your car like never before!
  • Durability & Insurance: Cars now lose durability each race and will need to be repaired. If a car reaches 0% durability, it will lose all benefits from performance parts. Durability loss can be prevented for a set period of time by purchasing Insurance from the Safehouse.
  • Booster Packs are now available for purchase. These packs each contain 5 Reward Cards, granting you additional performance parts, cash, and powerups.
  • Hot Pursuit Cross-Promotion: Need for Speed Hot Pursuit owners will receive a free 3-Day rental of a cop-themed Audi R8 and Exclusive cop vinyls that can be applied to any car in your garage. To qualify, you must use the same EA Account to play Need for Speed World and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. To receive your rewards, you will need to be logged in to your EA Account and have redeemed your Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Online Pass code.
  • A 'Royal Purple' branded Audi R8, Dodge Charger & Subaru Impreza have been added to the game. As a bonus, these vehicles each come with an exclusive performance part pre-installed.
  • Shield powerup has been updated, and can now be used to remove active Traffic Magnets on players.
  • Various interface/UI improvements have been made throughout the game, including an improved Powerup Console, and pre-race screen.

Bug Fixes[]

  • Made improvements to a player presence bug that was causing players to incorrectly appear online/offline to their friends. This should significantly reduce the frequency that this issue occurs.
  • Over 150 other bugs have been resolved. They will not be posted in these patch notes in an effort to keep these notes short.

Known Issues[]

  • The descriptive text for the Progression Amplifier % value is displayed incorrectly in German. The correct percentage and duration values for this Amplifier are a 25% increase for 7 Days.
  • The descriptive text of the Cash Amplifier duration and % value is displayed incorrectly in German. The correct percentage and duration values for this Amplifier are a 25% increase for 7 Days.

Special Notes[]

  • Performance Customisation: We have taken great care to ensure that cars that have already been customised do not lose their performance rating upon the deployment of Version 5. Therefore, players who have cars whose performance has already been customised will receive performance parts that have a performance rating equal to or greater than the performance customisation package installed on their car before Version 5. These parts will already be installed on the car after Version 5 is deployed.

  • Event Improvements: Previously unlocked events will now remain playable regardless of Driver Level. Events closer to a Player's Driver Level will be highlighted, but older events will remain available for racing
  • Help System: An improved help system has been added that displays tips and tutorials throughout the game. In addition, the Game Guide (previously available from the website) has been made accessible from within the game
  • Group Chat: Players can now invite friends to participate in private group chat. To do this, bring-up the context menu by right-clicking on a player name or car and select "Invite to Group"
  • World Map/Mini Map Improvements: Both the World Map and Minimap have been remodeled. In addition, the World Map now displays event activity levels allowing Players to find matches even easier
  • SpeedBoost Catalog Improvements: The SpeedBoost catalog has been expanded with even more items available for purchase
  • Tier Restricted Races: Some events have now been limited to a specific Tier of vehicles

Known Issues[]

  • Players can continue to spend Boost on Rep Progression Amplifiers after reaching level 50 but this will have no effect
  • Quitting out of a single player race currently counts as a DNF in the Player's statistics
  • Rarely, the Standings screen will report inaccurate/no times, or a "Retrieving Profile" message
  • Blocking a Player does not prevent that Player from being added to your Friends List
  • Occasionally, spamming certain keys while entering/exiting the Safehouse will cause the game to crash
  • The Nissan 350Z will occasionally lose its headlight texture when smashing into an object
  • If a Player attempts to purchase a Powerup with insufficient SpeedBoost from the post-race/pursuit screen, the game will hang
  • There is a known issue preventing some supported controllers from functioning on 32-bit Operation Systems
