The 2020 Nissan Z Prototype (RZ34) is a concept coupé developed by Nissan and entered production in 2021 as the Nissan Z.
First shown on September 16, 2020, the Z Proto was revealed through a worldwide streaming event hosted at the Nissan Pavilion in Yokohama, Japan. The production model was shown in New York City by Nissan through their official YouTube channel on August 17, 2021 after being teased over two years prior in 2018 by Alfonso Abaisa, Senior Vice President for Global Design.
Although based on the chassis developed for the 370Z, the concept derives its design from multiple cars in the Fairlady's history: the silhouette of the 240, the headlights of the 240ZG, and the rear of the 300ZX.
The interior was designed through input by professional motorsport drivers to create a sports car cabin suited both on the road and on a race track, whilst also maintaining the vintage ques of the 1970s Fairlady.
With the exterior silhouette arranged to mimic the 240, elements such as the side skirts, rear valance, and front lower lip are made of carbon fibre.
