The Player takes the role of an undercover Tri-City Bay Police Department officer in Need for Speed: Undercover.
STORY[]
The game opens with the player escaping from TCBPD officers in a Nissan 370Z (Z34). After they succeed, the story cuts to a TCBPD police station, where TCBPD Lieutenant Jack M. Keller and FBI Inspector Chase Linh are arguing. It is then revealed that the player was placed undercover to find a car stolen by a street racing crew, with Linh as their handler.
Linh issues the player a blue Nissan 240SX (S13) and tells them to start racing, so that they would attract the attention of criminals. After the player wins a few races, Linh tells them of a big race coming up in Palm Harbor. The player wins the race, meeting brothers Hector and Zack Maio and Carmen Mendez. The player then starts working for the Maios, until Linh discovers that they are not involved in the car theft, upon which she orders the player to bring in the Maios and their crew.
Following the arrest of the Maio crew, the player moves on to Sunset Hills, attracting the attention of former TCBPD Lieutenant Gregory MacDonald ("GMAC") and starts working for him, including stealing a police car. However, when GMAC's assistant Rose Largo challenges the player to a duel, they suffer a brake failure near the end of the race, but narrowly survive. At debriefing, Keller reveals to the player and Linh that the player's brake lines weren't cut because of them getting too close to busting GMAC, but because of his enforcer Brad Rogers' jealousy and the stolen car is instead connected to the Triads, led by Chau Wu. After the player steals a car from Chau Wu and frames him on GMAC's orders, they are then confronted by Wu, who offers them a chance to redeem themselves by retrieving a car he believes GMAC has. The player is then ordered by Linh to take down GMAC and his crew. Following the arrest of GMAC's crew, Linh tells them that the missing car was not found.
However, the player is suddenly contacted by Carmen, who reveals that the BMW M6 was instead stolen by the Maio brothers, and asks them to take the car. Wu then calls the player, telling them that he has kidnapped Linh and orders them to bring him the car. However, after taking delivery of the car, Linh suddenly reveals herself as a double agent and murders Wu, framing the player, and escapes in the M6. TCBPD arrives at the scene, but the player escapes and apprehends Linh, and Keller is able to clear them. The player then meets up with Carmen, who asks them to take her to university as she has enrolled into a medical course there.
Vehicles[]
Aside from being able to choose their own car, the player drives certain cars during some career events:
- During the opening sequence, the player uses a Nissan 370Z (Z34) to escape from the Tri-City Bay Police Department.
- After the opening chase, the player receives a Nissan 240SX (S13) that can be kept in their garage.
- Near the end of the career, the player drives a BMW M6 stolen from Chau Wu.
