Also known as "Blackbird", the Special Edition was available with custom gold interior and exterior trims for the coupe and T-top models. It was priced higher than the simultaneously built Formula model.

The car gained popularity for its appearance in the 1977 action comedy film Smokey and the Bandit.[1]
