The 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Special Edition was an exterior option for the 1977 Firebird Trans Am that was available between 1977 and 1978. Also known as "Blackbird", it was priced higher than the simultaneously built Formula model and underwent several revisions in 1979. The SE was provided either as a coupe or as a T-top and had custom golden interior and exterior trims. 15,567 of the 68,745 Trans Am were ordered with this package.
The car gained popularity for its appearance in the 1979 action comedy film Smokey and the Bandit.

The 1977 Firebird Trans Am SE appears as a Muscle class car in the Movie Legends Pack DLC for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 releases of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012).
Purchasing the Movie Legends Pack will immediately unlock the Firebird T/A within Singleplayer. It is unlocked in Multiplayer upon the player completing 6 SpeedList events in the Dodge Charger R/T.
