The Pontiac GTO State Cruiser is a 2005 Pontiac GTO fitted with fictitious modifications for use as a police unit.
It is the standard issue patrol car utilised by the Rockport Police Department and Palmont Police Department. The police unit is based on the Pontiac GTO, that has been modified with police equipment and performance upgrades to meet the needs of extended pursuits.
There are two models of the State Cruiser; the standard issue model fitted with a full police package and the unmarked Undercover State Cruiser.
The unit is light but resilient resulting in an persistent means of pursuit against high durability vehicles. The power mixed with torque produced by the engine can become too excessive at low speeds and result in very little grip.
Officers driving State Cruiser units are trained in the following advanced driving techniques: Box, Herd, PIT, and Roadblock. An excessively damaged, or disabled unit, adds a $2,500 Bounty to the rap sheet of the suspect.

The Pontiac GTO State Cruiser is a police unit in Need for Speed: World, that is only utilised by the Palmont Police Department during select Team Escape events. It used to appear in early beta releases of Need for Speed: World during pursuits that had escalated to condition 3, but wasn't featured as a pursuit vehicle following the game's release.

- The entirely fictional State Muscle Cruiser takes on the role of State Cruiser in Need for Speed: World as well as in the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 releases of Need for Speed: Undercover.
- The 2005 Ford Mustang GT is used as a State Cruiser in the Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Nintendo Wii releases of Need for Speed: Undercover.
- The 2005 Dodge Charger SRT-8 is used as a State Cruiser in Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012).
- The vehicle type "player_cop_gto" allowed the player to drive the Pontiac GTO State Cruiser at some point during the development of Need for Speed: Carbon. It was altered for the released game to reference a driveable variant of the Police Federal Cruiser for Online game modes.
