The 2018 Porsche 718 Cayman GTS (Gran Turismo Sport) (982) is a sports car developed and manufactured by Porsche, with it being the third generation in the Cayman line up following on from the 981.
Both the third generation Cayman and fourth generation Boxster were announced in early 2016 at different motor shows, and were both introduced with a new turbocharged flat-four engine to replace the flat-six of the previous generation. As part of the change to a smaller engine, the "718" moniker was reprised to allow the two model line ups to coalesce into a single line up of coupé, roadster, and spyder models.
718 is derived from a collection of racing sports cars developed by Porsche between the late 50s and early 60s, which were based on the 550 A, having mid-engine layouts and small engines.
The GTS was announced in October 2017, went into production in December 2017, and went on sale in early 2018. It is fitted with a 2.5-litre flat-four engine also found in the S trims except includes a new air intake a revised turbocharger for a total increase of 15 bhp (11 kW) over the S.
It is also equipped with the Sport Chrono package - an alternative dashboard with a fitted stopwatch and dynamic engine mounts for improved comfort - as well as a sports exhaust, 20-inch Carrera S wheels, and a front splitter teamed with a gloss black section around the rear splitter as part of the Sport Design package.
