In 1974, the RSR's 2.8L flat-six engine's displacement was increased to 3.0L, which resulted in a power output of 330 bhp.
It participated in several prestigious motorsport events during the 1970s such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans between 1974 and 1978.

The Carrera RSR 3.0 was made available in Need for Speed: World on January 27th, 2012 as a Tier 2 car. Since August 22nd, 2012, it has been featured as a C class car.
The Carrera RSR 3.0 is a fast Class B car with a powerful acceleration and a high top speed of 189 mph (304 km/h), which is comparable to that of a BMW M3 Sport Evolution. Its handling acts precisely in corners and is controllable at high speeds. However, the RSR has a weak nitrous boost.

The 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 appears in Shift 2: Unleashed as a part of the the Legends Pack downloadable content. It appears as a Legends 70s GT car with a C 939 performance rating and 3.32 handling rating.
A 'Team Need For Speed' variant is also featured within the DLC and is unlocked after beating Matt Powers in the Legends Championship. It has a B 1170 performance rating and 3.83 handling rating.
