The 1972 Porsche 911 S 2.4 is a sports model of the 911's E and F series manufactured by Porsche for the 1972 and 1973 model years.
It is powered by an air-cooled, flat-six engine with 2.341 cc displacement, although marketed as a 2.4-litre car. The new engine increased power and torque, and as such the 911 S 2.4 received a new, stronger transmission based on the transmission used in the Porsche 908 race car.
Compared to the 1967 911 S, the wheelbase had been extended in 1969 by 57 millimeters (only by moving wheels further apart, without adding to the car length) for better handling.
Offered in Coupé and Targa variants, the 911 S 2.4 was the first 911 S to be equipped with mechanical fuel injection, and is visually identifiable by having a front spoiler.

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed[]
The 1972 911 S 2.4 Coupé appears in Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed as a class 3 vehicle in the Golden Era category. It is unlocked upon completing the 914 Challenge Tournament and is purchasable for $30,680 in the Porsche showroom.
The S 2.4 is slightly quicker than the 1967 911 S and is also featured with a direct but sensitive steering. It is a decent car for the Evolution mode although the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 is better.
In the PlayStation release, the 911 S 2.4 Coupé appears as a Class 1 car in the Classic Era.
Trivia[]
- In the PC release of Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, the S 2.4 is missing the front spoiler and uses black wheels to distinguish itself from the 1967 model.
- In the car parts upgrade of the PC release of Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed the 911 S 2.4 uses carburetors despite in real life, excepting the 911 T base model, the 911 has been using Kugelfischer/Bosch mechanical fuel injection since 1969.
