Template:InfoboxCar2 The Porsche 959 is a mid-engined supercar developed by Porsche from 1986 to 1989. Only 337 units were produced. It was briefly the world's fastest production car although this title was swiftly claimed by the Ferrari F40.

It used many high-tech components such as an electronic AWD system as it was designed to compete in Group B rallying. The road-racing variant of the 959 - the 961 - competed and was successful in the Paris-Dakar Rally as well as in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed

The 959 is featured in Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed as an add-on vehicle.

It is as quick and powerful as the Porsche 911 Turbo (993) and more stable than rear-engined cars without all-wheel drive.

Need for Speed: World

Template:NFSWlink On April 26th, 2010 the Need for Speed: World Create-A-Porsche 959 Contest was held. 3D Modelers had the chance to send a 959 3D model to Black Box with the best entry being placed into the released title. The winning model was created by Svyatoslav Gampel.

It was officially released on July 26th, 2011 as a Tier 3 car for in-game cash. Since August 22nd, 2012, it has been featured as a 'A' Class car. The in-game cash purchaseable version was retired on October 2nd, 2012, but made available again on December 14th, 2012. It was retired for the second time on March 5th, 2013.

The in-game cash variant was purchaseable for Dollar icon1,800,000 and has a 671 overall rating. The SpeedBoost variant has a 731 overall rating, Amerikon Speedsystems Street Tuned parts and costs SpeedBoost4,700. Both are upgradeable to S Class but cannot be fitted with body kits.

The Porsche 959 is an above average 'A' Class vehicle due to its low weight and highly responsive handling, which comes at the expense of oversteer in turns. Its acceleration is sub-par, when compared to similarly ranging Porsches and overall somewhat lacking for a 'A' Class car. Top speed is 186 mph (300 km/h).

Special Variants

A Year One variant was released simultaneously with the stock vehicle as part of the title's first anniversary. It is equipped with Gromlen Race Tuned parts, several Aftermarket Parts and painted in blue with unique "Year One" vinyls. It costs SpeedBoost5,000.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)

The 959 featured in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010) is only available in the downloadable Porsche Unleashed Pack for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases of the title. It is a Super class Racer vehicle and a Rapid Deployment SCPD Unit.
