Renault 5 GT Turbo was a hot hatchback variant of the second generation Renault 5, which was referred to as the Supercinq or as the Superfive.
Unlike the renowned Renault 5 Turbo, the 5 GT Turbo wasn't based on the first generation model and featured a front-engined, front-wheel drive layout.
Throughout its lifespan, the Renault 5 GT Turbo received a series of upgrades. A Phase II upgrade in 1987 came with a watercooling system for the turbocharger, a new ignition system, and minor exterior modifications.
The interior was revamped in 1989 and a metallic blue-only Raider edition was released in 1990. The production ended in 1991 and the 5 GT Turbo was succeeded by the Clio 16v and the limited edition Clio Williams.
Need for Speed: Nitro
The 5 GT Turbo appears as a racer vehicle in the DS release of Need for Speed: Nitro.
