The desert heat has taken its toll on this old decrepit raceway. Loose gravel at the sides of the track can send the tail end out of control. If you want quick laps and fast speeds, this is where you’ll get them. But remember, the only thing separating you from the finish line is the wall at turn 4.
— In-game description

Rusty Springs Raceway is a circuit track course in a barren desert featured in the MS-DOS, PlayStation, and Sega Saturn releases of The Need for Speed.

The course also appears in Need for Speed: Web Racing, an online-only conversion of Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit developed for web browsers.

It has a difficulty rating of "Beginner" and contains four corners along its 1.5 mile (2.4 km) length. It also only permits the use of class C vehicles in Tournament mode.

In Time Trial mode, players can perform 5th wheel performance tests in Rusty Springs.

Alternate Renditions[]

Oasis Springs[]

Oasis Springs is an Egyptian off-road rendition of Rusty Springs Raceway, which can be access with the "Rally mode" cheat code:

  • In the PlayStation release, players have to finish a tournament and hold L1 + L2 over "Rusty Springs Raceway" in the course selection menu.
    • Alternatively, players can input the cheat code "TSYBNS" instead.
  • In the MS-DOS release, players have to win a tournament and input the cheat code "EAC RALY" before entering a race at Rusty Springs Raceway.
  • In the Special Edition release, players have to win two tournaments to unlock all Rally mode courses.

It is also present from the beginning in the non-commercial release Over Drivin' DX - Rally Edition.

Oasis Springs is not present in the Sega Saturn releases, which has a rally-themed Rusty Springs Raceway instead.

Lunar Springs[]

Lunar Springs is a rendition of the Rusty Springs Raceway set on Luna and is featured in the PlayStation release of The Need for Speed.

To unlock the course, players have to finish two consecutive Tournaments.

Alternatively, players can input the cheat code "SPKSHC" instead of winning the tournaments, then navigate to a route selection screen, and with the Rusty Springs route highlighted hold Triangle, L1, and R1.
