SMS (Short Message Service) is a text based messaging service utilised by mobile phones. It is featured as a messaging system in Need for Speed: Underground 2, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Need for Speed: Carbon and Need for Speed: Undercover. It is used in game as a menu system that gives the player access to events, locations, and progression.
Inbox
The Inbox is where the player will receive as well as access messages concerning events, magazine opportunities, new shop parts and character messages. Need for Speed: Underground 2 was the first to use SMS as a gameplay tool. The SMS service was seen under the Cingular brand in Need for Speed Underground 2 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted although the brand was changed to T-Mobile in Need for Speed: Carbon and Need for Speed: Undercover.
GPS
Players can also access a GPS Map from their in-game phone.
