The 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi (GDB-D) is the first STi model to be introduced in North America.

The WRX STi debuted in the North American market with different specifications than its European and Japanese counterparts. Instead of the 2.0 litre EJ207 flat-four, it was released with a newly designed 2.5 litre version codenamed EJ257. In addition, it borrowed a high number of parts from the JDM Spec C model.

The 2004 STi is commonly referred to as "blobeye" by enthusiasts. It was replaced by the "hawkeye" model in 2006.

The Impreza WRX appears in Need for Speed: Underground 2, and is unlocked during stage 5 of the career mode after completing all URL events.

The Impreza WRX STi appears in Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

It has impressive acceleration and top speed, as well as performing well in pursuits due to its high kerb weight but also tends to understeer through sharp bends.

The stock Impreza WRX STi is unlocked through the Career mode upon the player defeating Blacklist Rival #9: Eugene "Earl" James.

Upon being unlocked, it can be purchased in the Career mode from a Car Lot for 42,000 cash, and it can be selected for customisation in My Cars.

A custom Impreza WRX STi is offered in the Challenge Series and can be driven in two events:

• #16 - Spike Strips: Dodge two police spike strips in a Heat Level 4 pursuit and evade.

It can not be unlocked for use in any events or game modes outside of its two Challenge Series events.
