The 1999 Subaru Impreza WRX Type R STi version V Limited (GC8-F) is a 2-door, all-wheel drive sports coupe developed and manufactured by Subaru.

First revealed on October 22, 1992 before going on sale in Japan in the following November, the first generation Impreza was offered with either a saloon (GM) or wagon (GF) body style before the introduction of a 2-door coupe (GC) in 1995. All models were offered with a flat-4 EJ Boxer engine of varying displacement, with the 4-door WRX (World Rally eXperimental) 1994cc EJ20T engine fitted with a turbocharger as Subaru's STi (Subaru Tecnica International) motorsport division had intentions to homologate the car for Group A rallying.

Following its success in the 1993 World Rally Championship - finishing 3rd in the Manufacturers' championship and earning several event podiums - a WRX STi variant (GC8-B) was produced for homologation. It went on sale in January 1994 - retroactively referred to as "version I" - and an optional WRX STi Type RA (Rally Altered) for the 4-door model was also sold which removed the air-conditioning, sound deadening, and the radio.

As Subaru saw success in the World Rally Championship, revisions were made for the road car with each model year:

• Version II (GC8-C) was sold from September 1994 with a 555 example production run and introduced the "Limited" moniker to commemorate a title earned by Subaru's World Rally Team.
• Version III (GC8-D) was sold from September 1996, which introduced the 2-door Type R option and adopted by Prodrive for the WRC.
• Version IV (GC8-E) was sold from September 1997 with a new interior design.
• Version V (GC8-F) was sold from September 1998 including a facelifted exterior and additional interior changes.
• Version VI (GC8-G) was sold from September 1999 with an improved turbocharger.

As a special rally edition, the modifications made to version V were extensive:

• WRX: 1994cc engine, all-wheel drive, stiffer suspension, a turbocharger, and a rear limited slip differential.
• STi: Performance tuned EJ207 engine with increased power and torque output, an electronic DCCD (Driver Controlled Center Differential) system, and "Cherry Blossom Red" badges.
• Type R: Reduced sound deadening, manual windows, removed air-conditioning, no anti-lock brakes, an intercooler water spray, and shorter gear ratios.
• Version V: 5th rendition with black and red Recaro front seats, facelifted exterior, and "Boxer Phase 2" engine layout.
• Limited: "Sonic Blue" body paint colour, roof vent, and a 635 example production run.
