Tournament is a game mode in The Need for Speed, present in all retail releases, with the exception of the original, 3DO release.
It consists of a series of races on all of the regular courses, which can be raced in any order. In this event, traffic and cops are not present in the open road segments.
Courses[]
Each course is rated for a particular performance class, and players may select them in any order. If players finish in 1st on any course, a win video plays.
Completed courses are marked with a chequered flag - players has to win in 1st place in all releases excepting the Special Edition, which only requires to finish the race for a course to be marked as completed.
Lost Vegas is made available upon winning the Tournament for the first time, and will be included in the event if players enter the series again.
In each course, players can change the time of day, but not the pre-set number of laps.

The Need for Speed: Special Edition[]

At the conclusion of the Tournament, the Summary screen shows the final standings, and if players place first, Lost Vegas, Warrior PTO E/2 and mirrored courses are unlocked. Finishing the Tournament a second time will unlock rally-themed courses.
Trivia[]
- The bonus car and bonus course modes (rally and mirrored) do not take part in the Tournament.
- Compared to all other releases, in Nissan Presents: Over Drivin' GT-R the performance class restriction for each course is swapped between class A and B.
