The 1994 Toyota Supra Turbo (A80) is a coupe sports car manufactured by Toyota for export markets outside of Japan.
The A80 generation is significantly lighter than the previous A70 generation, employing the use of aluminium for the bonnet, some suspension components, and the targa roof, as well as a plastic fuel tank cover and a magnesium steering wheel.
Its twin-turbocharged 2JZ-GTE engine uses a sequential induction system, having exhaust gasses pass through the turbine of one turbo as low as 1,800 rpm before spooling the second turbo around 4,000 rpm and having both operate in parallel above 4,500 rpm, effectively reducing lag introduced by both turbochargers but also allowing both to maximise air input at higher rpm.
Going on sale in May 1993 as the fourth generation (A80) Supra, it was only fitted with a 3.0-litre inline-six but was offered as either naturally aspirated (2JZ-GE) or twin-turbocharged (2JZ-GTE), and was available with a hard top or a removeable targa top referred to as the "Aerotop".
In the Japanese domestic market, it was sold from May 1993 to July 2002 with a twin-turbo induction for "GZ", "RZ", or "RZ-S" trims and without for the "SZ" or "SZ-R" trims, with revisions introduced in May 1996 creating a differentiation between "Series 1" and "Series 2" models.
The targa "aero roof" was offered for the 4-speed automatic "SZ" trim from 1993 until August 1999 and the "GZ" trim from 1993 until May 1996, although it was offered as an option throughout its sale in the North America market from May 1993 until August 1999.

The Need for Speed[]
The Supra Turbo appears in The Need for Speed.
In all releases, following the 3DO original release, it is grouped in Class C alongside the Acura NSX and Mazda RX-7. It has noticeably better acceleration and handling than the other cars in its class, although it has a low top speed.
It can only be selected with a red paint although, in the PlayStation and Sega Saturn releases, it can appear in black when driven by A.I. and split-screen opponents.
Description
At the heart of the Supra's power plant is its sequential twin-turbo system. The response is quite good, it has a touch more low rpm lag than the very immediate power delivery of the RX-7. Steady-state cornering shows mild understeer with very aggressive throttle mashing required to step the tail out. Predictable and controllable handling are the trademarks of this car.
From its enormous front air intakes to the clusters of tiny taillights under a towering F40-style wing, Toyota Supra is a powerful styling statement. It also has muscle beneath its hood to match those looks – a three liter twin-turbo inline-6 engine makes 320 horsepower, which ties it with the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 for the most powerful Japanese production sports car made. The Supra's chassis employs no special gimmicks, just the basics for world-class handling.
Defeat the standard traction control and the Supra will take you to 60 miles per hour in a torrid five seconds flat, helped by a slick shifting 6-speed with throws as short as a Formula Ford's. Tremendous grip and extremely predictable handling matters make it easy to extract the most from this chassis, putting it near the top of the group for overall handling and control, but be careful when exiting tight corners – the tail can and will come out under power.
Like all the Supras before it, this version uses an inline-6 with a cast iron block and aluminum head, but twin camshaft, sequential twin turbos, and a jumbo-sized intercooler help bolster output to 320 horsepower. Despite weight saving efforts such as hollowed fiber carpeting, dished head bolts, and a glass sphere-filled rear wing, the Supra is no bantamweight. Our scales show a healthy 3450 pounds.
