The 1975 Volvo 242 DL (De Luxe) is a two-door base model based on Volvo's 240, a long-running series of executive cars that was produced from 1974 to 1993.
The DL is fitted with a cloth or vinyl interior, and alloy wheels with chrome hubcaps. It was introduced under Volvo's new company aims of driver safety, comfort, economy, and value for money.

Trivia
- In Need for Speed (2015), the 242 DL is listed as producing 138 horsepower in stock form, but only stock 1983 242 GLT models sold in Canada fitted with the Volvo Redblock B23E could produce 135 horsepower.[4]
- In Need for Speed (2015), fitting brake discs to the 242 DL will remove the stock drum brakes, but will not include any calipers unless an aftermarket component is fitted afterwards.
